Important Things Before Becoming an SBL Borrower

Who is it suitable for

  • Those who do not hold shares but want to speculate on the direction of stock prices
  • Those who constantly follow market movements

Investment Conditions

  • The minimum value for borrowing shares is 100,000 THB per single borrowed stock
  • Borrowing must be done in Board Lot units only(1 Board Lot equal to 100 shares)
  • Borrowed stocks must be listed in the SET100 Index and included in the list of stocks approved by the SET and the company for short selling View Short-Sell Eligible Stocks

How long can you invest

  • The minimum borrowing period is 1 day
  • The maximum borrowing period is up to 1 year (365 days)

Risks

  • There is a risk that the stock price may rise significantly, contrary to the expected market direction, making it difficult or impossible to buy back the shares at a profit.

  • A new client who wishes to open a stock trading account with Maybank
    • You can apply for a stock trading account through the Maybank Invest application. Simply follow the in-app instructions and prepare only your ID card and bank account number
    • To apply for a trading limit, please provide either your bank statements for the last three months, your latest payslip, or a salary certificate.
    • If the client wishes to be a lender, they should apply to open a Cash account, an Internet account, and an SBL account
    • If a client wishes to be a borrower, they should apply for a Cash account, a Credit Balance account, and an SBL account

Collateral Placement and Conditions for Borrowing Stocks for Short Selling


  • Before borrowing stocks for short selling, customers must place collateral in accordance with the company's requirements
  • Collateral may be placed in the form of cash or by depositing stocks into the Credit Balance account, which the system will calculate as the customer's Excess Equity (EE)
  • Before borrowing stocks for short selling, customers should ensure their Excess Equity is sufficient and consider the Initial Margin (IM) of the desired stocks. Relevant information can be found in the company's announcement of stocks eligible for short selling
  • Once customers have borrowed stocks and executed the short selling, the system will automatically deduct the short sale value from their Excess Equity (EE)
  • If the collateral in a customer's account falls below the company's required level, the company will issue a margin call to request additional collateral in order to maintain and sustain the customer's trading position
